Changing the Duration of the Logging Epoch

The VT Logger saves its people counts at regular intervals: every hour or every day for example. This interval is called an epoch. An LVT can store 900 epochs of data before the oldest readings are overwritten.

To set the duration of a Video Turnstile Logger's epoch:

  1. In the VT Setup software select the Unit Select tab. Choose your site and click the Connect to site button.
  2. Select the Logger Setup tab and choose a VT Logger from the Unit Address list.
  3. Type your logging interval into the Epoch Length box and click the Change button. If you enter one hour, for example, the number of people entering or leaving each hour will be counted.
  4. Update the clock by pressing the Reset button. This ensures that the number of seconds to the end of the epoch is calculated correctly (shown as the Time to next value).

The counters recording exits will have even epoch numbers and the counters recording entries odd epoch numbers.

Note: You are able to set different epoch lengths for each logging unit. However, the VT Collect software—which transfers data from the Loggers to the PC—may have a different logging interval from your VT units. This means that if you set VT Collect to log hourly counts, but some VT modules are set to log counts each half-hour, then the half-hours are added together. If VT units are logging counts every two hours, but VT Collect is logging counts each hour, then the software will show every other hour's count to be 0.
